I would really like to learn Linux, but I don't know how it would be practical in making money with that knowledge.

@TearsOfWar1 Well personally, I have used Linux and various open and/or free software to get 10 companies to stop pirating software.

You would be surprised how many Small Businesses, are illegally installing Windows or other software on more than one system because they can not afford to buy times X systems.

Since most of the systems in such a set up are just accessing the network and doing average user(Word,email, ect) they don't need to be stealing....

@TearsOfWar1 I find 9 out 10 of these cases they are unaware that there is a free or cheep legal way to do the same thing.

I can not count how many contacts I have gotten because of stuff like that. While they may never get cough they know the fines would bankrupt them. So most are why risk it if they do not need to?

It's largely indirect thing when it comes to money with those skill sets. Those offices are all still Windows based, but I have probably made $100,00+ because I knew about Linux

@TearsOfWar1 And some companies need experienced Linux Admins for servers and alot of those are $75,000 - $250,000 a year jobs.

Of course they are hard to get as you need to be a true Linux Guru and know it inside and out.

Neither Linux nor OS X, are the bastard step children of computers they are made out to be. If you are getting in to an industry where they are king in any way you need to know them or your not really employable.

And since things change, you should know them anyways IMHO.

@SaiE8

It runs great. Windows boots in under 30 seconds. There is a little lag when you start Media Center but that is due to the netbook's integrated graphics. Everything else is awesome. If you have a netbook, you must upgrade to SSD.

What is funny? This netbook that I bought on craigslist for $80 is now faster than the computer you used to comment. Errrrrr.......I mean your mom's computer that you used to comment. Go back to watching your Hannah Montana DVD.
